Urgent Medical
Assistance
Telephone 111 and the St
John Ambulance will dispatch medical
assistance. Muriwai has its own group of
EMU personnel, and the 111 service will alert
these especially trained people to help.
Fire
In the event of Fire -
call 111. The Fire Service will call
out the nearest Fire Service Crew.
Muriwai has its own group
of Fire personnel - and the Emergency 111
service will alert these trained
firefighters to help.
Open Fires and BBQ's
Muriwai falls under the
umbrella of the Rodney District Council (RDC)
Rural Fire District - and owing to the
type of environment, and the proximity of
the Woodhill State Forest - there are
strictly enforced rules pertaining to the
lighting of all fires in the open.
Please check with any member of the
Muriwai Rural Fire Force - the Woodhill
Forest Office - or the Rodney District
Council offices at Huapai before lighting
any fires.
Muriwai Beach
The beach and
coastline is a typical west coast
environment - which requires special
care and due respect - seek advice
before driving on the beach.
Swimming and
Surfing
Its an exciting
pastime - ensure you make yourself
aware of the conditions before
entering the water - don't take it for
granted.
Muriwai Surf Club
and Lifeguards provide an excellent
service, members patrol the beach
during the summer period - and can be
easily recognized by their distinctive
clothing
ALWAYS swim between
the flags.
Fishing
From the beach or
rocks is a great way to relax and is
mostly accessible. Check with
other fishers before you try your
hand at it.
There are
different and inherent dangers in
fishing the west coast surf beaches
- ask the local Fishing Club for
safety tips and techniques required
for a successful fishing experience.
